Veneers Q & A
What are veneers?
Veneers are a cosmetic dental procedure in which fabricated shells are used to cover the front side of your teeth to enhance their appearance. Veneers are custom-made to fit your individual teeth and match the color of your tooth enamel.
Tavory Family Dentistry specializes in all types of veneers. Some veneers are made of resin, but porcelain veneers are popular because they’re durable and stain-resistant, and they can easily be matched to the color of your natural teeth.
Why would I get veneers?
Veneers are most frequently used to cover visible imperfections. Some conditions that veneers can improve include:
- Stains
- Cracks
- Misshapen teeth
- Crooked teeth
Veneers can also be used to close small holes in the surface of your teeth, and to reinforce weak teeth.
What should I expect when I get my veneers?
If you’re interested in veneers, you start with a consultation with one of the dental experts at Tavory Family Dentistry to determine if you’re a good candidate and, if so, which type of veneers are right for your needs.
The process of installing veneers takes two visits. At the first visit, your dentist removes a thin layer of enamel from the surface of your teeth, to prepare them to receive your veneers. The dentist also takes a mold of your teeth, to send to a special lab. The lab uses this mold to create your custom veneers.
When it’s time to apply your veneers, your dentist carefully fits them to each individual tooth and checks to make sure that they feel comfortable and that your bite is aligned correctly. When your veneers have been fitted, your dentist uses a special adhesive and a light beam to bond them permanently to your teeth.
Once all your veneers have been bonded in place, you’re ready to enjoy your beautiful new smile.
How do I take care of my veneers?
Veneers don’t require special care, but daily brushing and flossing and regular dental checkups will keep your veneers looking their best, and help them last longer. With good oral hygiene, veneers can last 7-15 years.
